Nonmetallic Mining Operations General Permit Issued for Pits

On June 29, 2009, the Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System's (WPDES) Nonmetallic Mining Operations General Permit Reissuance was signed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR). The most significant changes have to do with discharge to impaired waters. There are also details to be worked out for the discharge to Parsons Creek in Fond du Lac County.
The existing nonmetallic mining facilities in Wisconsin will receive correspondence from WDNR in the next 30 days. This is good news for those who have nonmetallic mining operations, and for the aggregate industry.
