For Law Students

Summer Associate Program

Axley provides law students the opportunity to gain hands on legal experience through the firm’s summer law clerk program. Our summer law clerks get a true understanding of Axley and the legal industry by working with our 50 plus Wisconsin attorneys on real assignments for real clients in over 100 legal areas.

Axley’s summer law clerks:

  • Shadow attorneys at court trials, depositions and mediations
  • Learn about the business and marketing aspects of law practice, such as obtaining and retaining clients
  • Interact with clients and potential clients at company and community networking events
  • Draft memos, briefs and pleadings
  • Collaborate with attorneys to write articles and legal alerts, and prepare presentations
  • Participate in client and firm practice group meetings
  • Attend legal trainings and CLEs

Our summer law clerk program is our primary source of new associate hires. We principally recruit second year law students.

Now Hiring: Marketing Intern

Position Start: May 4th, 2015

Length of Position: Summer with the possibility of continuation through the fall and spring semester of 2015-2016.

Hourly Wage: $14/hr

Hours/Week: 15+ hours/week during the school year, with 40 hours/week in the summer

Axley’s Marketing Intern supports the firm’s Manager of Client Relations (Marketing Manager) through performing a wide variety of tasks pertaining to various aspects of the marketing and communications field – including, but not limited to, email marketing; social media marketing; search engine marketing; website/content management; customer relationship management; advertising design and copywriting (both digital and print); public and media relations; event planning; and business development.

Responsibilities Include

  • Write news releases and advertising copy to effectively brand the firm; execute media relations initiatives to solicit external placement of these materials
  • Craft nominations for firm members to earn awards through legal associations
  • Edit and format articles, legal alerts and videos; distribute publications to clients and other contacts through firm website, email marketing platform, and social media channels
  • Develop social media marketing campaigns to foster communications between firm and stakeholders; specifically, administer Facebook advertising campaigns to generate website visits
  • Conduct monthly website analytics; provide guidance to Marketing Manager for meeting regular business, SEO and engagement goals
  • Manage firm CRM system
  • Perform content management tasks on firm’s WordPress-based website, intranet and blog
  • Work directly with attorneys and various practice groups to implement marketing plans
  • Create marketing collateral, including new client pitch materials and attorney presentation materials
  • Coordinate client, employee and other firm-sponsored events
  • File marketing-related bills and perform other administrative tasks

Job Qualifications

  • Junior or senior in college majoring in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field
  • Strong writing, editorial, analytical and technological skills
  • Prior experience in legal marketing or other professional services marketing is a plus
  • Familiarity with social media channels
  • Willingness to quickly learn new technologies

The ideal candidate for this position is detail-oriented, self-sufficient and able to prioritize a large quantity of tasks.

Knowledge of WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, SalesForce, and ConstantContact is a plus, but is not required.
