Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings
Martindale-Hubbell's Peer Review Rating process evaluates lawyers and law firms in the U.S. and Canada based on peer review. These ratings are used as a resource when evaluating a lawyer, making referrals, or looking for counsel in another jurisdiction. Opinions of members of the Bar and the Judiciary are collected though questionnaires and personal interviews confirming a lawyer's legal ability and adherence to professional standards of ethics.

The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings are based on two parts:
  • The General Ethical Standards Rating (V - Very High) indicates the attorney's devotion to professional standards, ethics, reliability, diligence and other areas important to his or her professional responsibilities. An attorney must receive the General Ethical Standards Rating before his or her review can proceed to the next step
  • The Legal Ability Ratings look at the standard of professional ability in the area in which the attorney practices, the attorney's expertise, and other professional qualifications

Legal Ability Ratings are:

(C - Good to High) This is the maximum rating an attorney can receive who has been admitted to the bar from 3-4 years.

(B - High to Very High) This is the maximum rating an attorney can receive who has been admitted to the bar from 5-9 years.

(A - Very High to Preeminent) An attorney must be admitted to the bar for 10 years or more to receive this rating.

Due to the high percentage of Axley attorneys with (AV) ratings, Axley has been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell as one of the top nationally ranked law firms in the United States.
