Attorney Patrick Stevens is a partner in Axley and a member of the Construction and Environmental Practice Group.
Attorney Stevens has more than 30 years of experience working on a wide variety of environmental and other regulatory matters, and he has frequently interacted with regulatory agencies. He represents manufacturers, developers and construction companies on issues relating to environmental regulation (permitting, cleanups, compliance, enforcement), development and nonmetallic mining, as well as other matters.
Prior to joining Axley, Attorney Stevens served as the Assistant Deputy Secretary and as a division administrator with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (“DNR”). In both roles, he oversaw many of Wisconsin’s environmental programs, including those pertaining to air, water, waste and environmental cleanups. He also was involved in reviewing environmental enforcement matters for potential referral to the Wisconsin Department of Justice. In addition, he frequently interacted with the federal Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”), and other states’ environmental agencies. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Great Lakes Commission, the Executive Committee for the Environmental Council of States, and as chair of the Wisconsin Groundwater Coordinating Council.
In addition, Attorney Stevens worked for several different associations, in a variety of roles, including general counsel. He represented manufacturers, transportation builders, homebuilders, and developers on land use, environmental, and construction issues. He also served as an assistant attorney general in North Dakota where he worked on natural resource issues.
Outside of work, Attorney Stevens enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He is also an avid fly fisher and enjoys trout fishing at the family cabin.
