My son / daughter was bit by a dog, what should I do?
If you or someone in your family is bitten by a dog, you should immediately seek medical attention and call Animal Control. Many dog bites lead to infection, and it is important to get treatment right away. Plus, the dog will need to be quarantined to make sure the dog does not have rabies. Once you have gotten treatment, you should call a personal injury lawyer who specializes in dog bite cases. The owner of the dog usually has insurance to pay you for your injuries.
Do I still have a claim if my health insurance paid my medical bills?
Yes you do. Your own health insurance usually pays for your medical bills after an accident. Sometimes your own car insurance pays for some of the bills, or can help with copays and deductibles. In either case, you still can pursue a case for your injuries. Most times you will have to pay back your health insurance company for the medical bills that they paid for you, but you do not have to do that until the end of the case. In some cases, you do not have to pay back your health insurance company. You should talk to a personal injury lawyer to help you through this process.
