Axley Attorneys Honored with Inaugural “Komen Impact Award”

April 4, 2013

komen(Madison, Wis.) — Due to their steadfast commitment to increasing breast cancer awareness and fundraising for treatments and cures, Axley attorneys Melissa Warner and Becky Orvick received the first ever “Komen Impact Award” from the South Central Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Wednesday night.

The award commemorates Warner and Orvick’s fundraising efforts through their By Women for Women Golf event, an annual summer outing that raises money for breast cancer programs and research. Over the past eight years, the event raised more than $272,000 for the South Central Wisconsin Affiliate.

Komen Executive Director Michelle Heitzinger says Warner and Orvick are furthering the organization’s promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever.

“They have been the inspiration for women helping women, right here in our community,” said Heitzinger. “We are so proud and honored to be the beneficiary of this invaluable partnership and a unique community fundraising event.”

Warner and Orvick founded By Women for Women Golf in 2005 and turned it into a 501(c)(3) non-profit company to host this annual charitable event benefitting breast cancer research. Since then, the outing has sold out every year.
