Attorney James Lenahan is an associate at Axley and a member of the firm’s business practice group. Attorney Lenahan focuses his practice in the areas of general business, business planning, taxation, securities, acquisition and sales of businesses, intellectual property, and real estate transactions. Additionally, Attorney Lenahan assists clients with their various estate planning needs.
During his collegiate studies, Attorney Lenahan worked for two small businesses in the Greater Milwaukee area—one of which was family owned. After receiving his business degree from Marquette University, Attorney Lenahan worked at a global consulting firm where he performed risk consulting and auditing services, led accounting system analysis trainings, and helped develop a nationally used data analysis software solution. During law school, Attorney Lenahan clerked at a reputable firm in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked on intellectual property, commercial lease, real estate, non-compete, and business transaction matters.
Attorney Lenahan is a graduate of Marquette University Law School where he served as Co-Managing Editor of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Law Review, Co-Student Coordinator of the Domestic Violence Project, and a Student Associate of the Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic. With the Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic, Attorney Lenahan supported local entrepreneurs and small businesses by providing business formation, business planning, contract drafting, venture capital pursuit, 501(c)(3) requirements, intellectual property protection, employment agreements, and regulation compliance services. Attorney Lenahan’s student comment was awarded the 2020 Frank C. DeGuire Award and published in 2021.
Before joining Axley, Attorney Lenahan worked for another global consulting firm as a Senior Associate. Focusing on indirect tax, Attorney Lenahan supported his publicly traded clients with tax controversy and tax audit defense services. Independent from the global consulting firm, Attorney Lenahan performed contract drafting, contract dispute, and legal compliance services to a local small business.
Attorney Lenahan’s experience working in small businesses and supporting Fortune 500 clients provides him with a unique perspective across a wide range of business matters while understanding the importance of providing timely, cost-effective legal services to his clients.
When not in the office, you will often find Attorney Lenahan playing basketball, running, enjoying the outdoors with friends, traveling, or reading.
